The grass on the other side...
I think it won’t be an exaggeration to say that life without problems can’t exist. Everyone has their own and in their individual spaces they seem big and scary. I once heard Oprah Winfrey say that there is nothing that can happen to you that has not already happened to someone else. So basically, you can relax because other people have overcome it and so will you.
It’s
said that hypothetically if we had a bunch of people gather around a round table,
ask them to place all their problems out on the table and then give them a
chance to choose someone else’s problem, trade for something that felt less
heavy, then everyone would quietly pick their own and step away. This goes to say
that everything in life has its downside, there is no escaping there. Irrespective
we do end up comparing so much only to feel bad about our own life.
The concern is not just comparison, it’s about not even doing it fairly. Logically to compare the starting point and critical parameters should be similar. These are often missed and what we end up doing is comparing someone’s good to our bad. That is just setting yourself up for failure.
So,
the grass on the other side isn’t greener. In fact, it is not your grass so
just stop looking there. Work on maintaining your own.
